Antenatal Care
The Maternity and Infant Care Scheme is a free scheme for all expectant mothers who choose to partake in shared antenatal care. This may be either semi-private (using your health insurance) or the public, in association with visits to your local maternity hospital.
You can sign up on the day that you attend for your first appointment. Antenatal visits during your pregnancy are free, as are the baby’s two week postnatal check and a six week postnatal check for both mother and baby.
All pregnant women are advised to have the flu vaccine plus whooping cough in later pregnancy to protect the new born baby.
Alternatively, you may decide to go for private antenatal care and we can advise you on this and your Consultant and hospital options.
